When do I submit payroll?

Enter the date employees must be paid. This counts back through banking days, skipping weekends and Reserve Bank closures, to the date the file has to go out.

Target payday

When payday falls on a closure

Funds cannot settle on a day the Federal Reserve is closed. If payday lands on a weekend or a Reserve Bank holiday, the money has to arrive earlier. Paying early is a scheduling inconvenience. Paying late is a compliance problem in many states.

This calculator moves payday backwards to the previous banking day and counts from there.

Saturday holidays

A fixed-date holiday on a Saturday closes federal offices the Friday before, but not Reserve Banks. ACH processes that Friday, and payday does not move. Calendars that mark it as an observed bank holiday push payroll a day early for no reason. In 2026 that is Friday, July 3.

Bank cutoffs

These dates are measured against the Federal Reserve's schedule, which is the outer limit. Your originating bank sets its own cutoff, usually earlier, and many require files a full business day ahead. Treat the result as the last possible date, then apply your bank's deadline on top of it.
